A Cocktail For Tax Day

Tax Day is upon us again.

Thankfully there is a drink that’s intended to go along with this annual event — the Income Tax Cocktail:

Like Tax Day itself, this spin on the perfect gin martini only ever really comes around once a year, so try one tonight:

About This Drink:

“Citrus-sweetened mix of gin and vermouth…”

Imbibe Magazine

Here’s the Imbibe Magazine recipe:

  • 1 1/2 oz. gin
  • 3/4 oz. dry vermouth
  • 3/4 oz. sweet vermouth
  • Juice of 1/4 orange
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters

Shake over ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange wedge.

As adapted by Ted Haigh in Vintage Spirits & Forgotten Cocktails.

Here’s the Liquor.com recipe:

  • .25 oz Dry vermouth
  • .25 oz Sweet vermouth
  • 1.5 oz Gin
  • .75 oz Orange juice
  • 1 dash Angostura Bitters

Shake ingredients over ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

This recipe is adapted from the 1935 first edition, second printing of Old Mr. Boston Official Bar-Tenders Guide.

NOTE: Despite Imbibe‘s suggestion of an orange wheel garnish, I made mine in the picture above with a lemon twist — and the bar smells amazing right now.
